Take a stroll–
More than just a route from one place to another, or a space for the movement of people and vehicles, the street is the quintessential urban public space. Streets are the veins and arteries of towns and cities, but they are also—or should be—the space where we meet and mingle. Processions, parades, and protests unfold in the streets, alongside markets and local festivals. The street is where we used to play as children.
But the street can also be a place of watchful eyes, of police surveillance and arrests, of pursuit; a place where power is exercised through violence. The street is a bed for those with no roof, a stage for struggle, for conflict, for quiet despair. Not all streets are democratic spaces, nor welcoming places lined with trees.
What is your street? Is it a gentle space for wandering, or an urgent territory for those who risk their lives?
Please come stroke the streets of possibilities and exits. We look forward to bumping into you on addanomadd Street.
