Para español, baja por la calle hasta el fondo

…Tear gas and rubber bullets

Erupted only to repeat again…

I can’t think of you

squishy weapon

aggressive tires.

I was stood up

earlier in the same location.

…National guard troops arrive

post haste under tense conditions…

Where is my poet

where is my human

that doesn’t play a double

life as a vacuum cleaner?

…The illegal immigrants who were

Working in airports…

I thought you were different

I was sorely disappointed.

…Take the opportunity to make the situation

So much worse, joining the fight

against law enforcement and the federal government—

We’re losing daylight…

Escape is not possible

Gaslights are shining all over LA.

…The night emboldens them…

Equally spurred on

I drove two hours up a mountain

for you to tell me of my own delusions

thing is you created them,

You created them

a thousand years ago

and I come home

the rhetoric is repeated.

Rachel Stratemeier is a poet and writer who tries not to drive too many miles per hour over the speed limit and crosses the street only to get to the other side.

… Gases lacrimógenos y balas de goma

resonaron, solo para repetirse de nuevo…

No puedo pensarte,
arma inconsistente,
llantas beligerantes.

Me habías dejado esperando
en ese mismo lugar.

… tropas de la Guardia Nacional acuden
de inmediato bajo una tensión creciente…

¿Dónde está mi poeta?
¿Dónde está mi humano
que no lleva la doble vida
de una aspiradora?

… los inmigrantes indocumentados que
trabajaban en los aeropuertos…

Pensé que eras distinto.
Qué dolorosa decepción.

… aprovechan la ocasión para agravar
considerablemente la situación, sumándose a la lucha
contra la policía y el gobierno federal

—Se nos va la luz del día…

No hay escapatoria.
La manipulación psicológica ilumina Los Ángeles.

… La noche les da valor…

Igualmente espoleada,
conduje dos horas montaña arriba,
para que me hablaras de mis propias quimeras,
las que tú mismo creaste,
Tú las creaste
hace mil años,
y yo vuelvo a casa
y la retórica se repite.

Rachel Stratemeier es una poeta y escritora que trata de no excederse demasiado del límite de velocidad. Cuando ella cruza una calle es exclusivamente para llegar al otro lado.
